I need to work with a chemical that puts off strong fumes. There is
a respirator in a cabinet in our work area. Can I go ahead and work with
this chemical while wearing this respirator?
- No!!
Before using any respirator device, you must:
- Complete a
medical evaluation and be approved by a physician to use a
respirator.
- Be properly
fitted for a respirator and be trained in its use, cleaning, and
storage.
- Know the
specific properties of the chemical in order to select the right
type of respirator and filter.
- This may
require the services of a professional industrial hygienist.
- Respirator
use is the last resort in protecting against chemical fumes.
- First,
engineering controls such as ventilation must be considered.
- Next,
administrative controls such as procedures or special tools, must
be considered.
- To learn
more, read the
Sokudo Respiratory Protection Program documentation.
